Asbestos, Contaminated Materials & Fire Debris Questions in Spokane, WA

Before debris can be removed, we need to know what’s in it.

Suspected asbestos, contaminated building materials, fire ash, and chemical-contaminated debris need assessment before a cleanout or demolition project moves forward. Timber Moose Dynamics cannot accept asbestos-containing materials, hazardous contaminated debris, or radioactive materials. Fire-damaged materials require review before we can confirm whether removal is possible. This page answers common questions about our restrictions and helps you find assessment and disposal guidance. Tell us about any suspected contamination or fire damage before scheduling, and leave questionable materials undisturbed.

What We Cannot Take

Asbestos & Hazardous Contaminated Materials We Cannot Accept

  • Asbestos-containing materials: Building products confirmed to contain asbestos, including certain insulation, flooring, siding, roofing, and pipe coverings.

  • Suspected asbestos materials: Questionable building materials that have not been assessed and cleared for the planned work.

  • Hazardous fire ash and debris: Ash and burned debris containing—or suspected of containing—asbestos, chemicals, or other hazardous substances.

  • Chemical-contaminated debris: Wood, drywall, insulation, furniture, and other materials contaminated with hazardous chemicals.

  • Contaminated soil and absorbents: Soil, rags, absorbent pads, and cleanup materials containing hazardous fuel, oil, or chemical contamination.

  • Radioactive materials: Radioactive substances, contaminated objects, and materials identified as requiring specialized radioactive waste disposal.

  • These materials cannot be included in our junk removal or demolition loads. Bagging them or mixing them with other debris does not make them acceptable.

    What About Other Fire-Damaged Materials?

Fire damage does not automatically mean every item is hazardous, but we need to review the materials and applicable disposal requirements before confirming removal. Contact us before scheduling and provide any available asbestos survey or assessment documentation. This must be included.

Leave suspected asbestos and questionable contaminated debris undisturbed. Arrange an assessment by an appropriately qualified professional before cutting, breaking, sweeping, or moving the materials.

Keeping hazardous dust and contaminated debris out protects everyone handling your junk.

Disturbing asbestos-containing materials can release microscopic fibers into the air that can cause serious illness when inhaled. Fire ash and contaminated debris may also contain harmful chemicals or other hazardous substances that can spread during loading, transportation, and disposal. Timber Moose Dynamics cannot accept asbestos, hazardous contaminated materials, or radioactive waste because they require specialized handling and disposal. Leave questionable materials undisturbed and arrange an assessment by a qualified professional. Before we can confirm removal of other fire-damaged materials, you must provide the applicable asbestos survey or assessment documentation for our review.

How asbestos, contaminated material & fire debris disposal works

These materials need assessment before cleanup begins. Follow these four steps to find the appropriate disposal option and determine whether Timber Moose Dynamics can remove any remaining nonhazardous debris.

1. Leave questionable materials undisturbed

Do not cut, break, sweep, vacuum, or move suspected asbestos or contaminated debris. Keep people and pets away from the affected area. Materials cannot be confirmed safe by appearance alone, and disturbing them may spread hazardous dust or contamination.

2. Arrange a professional assessment

For suspected asbestos or fire-damaged building materials, contact an AHERA-certified asbestos building inspector. Spokane Regional Clean Air Agency can explain local requirements at 509-477-4727. For chemical contamination or suspected radioactive materials, seek guidance from the appropriate environmental or public health agency before handling anything.

3. Arrange specialized removal and disposal

If hazardous materials are identified, use a qualified contractor authorized to handle that waste. Asbestos removal requires an appropriately certified abatement contractor. Have the provider confirm disposal arrangements, required notifications, packaging, and transportation. Do not assume these materials qualify for resident household hazardous waste collection.

4. Send us documentation before scheduling

For any remaining fire-damaged or previously questionable materials, provide the applicable asbestos survey and assessment documentation to Timber Moose Dynamics. This documentation must be included before we can confirm removal. We will review the materials and disposal requirements. A negative asbestos result does not clear other hazardous contamination.

  • No. Timber Moose Dynamics cannot take asbestos-containing materials or suspected asbestos that has not been professionally assessed. This includes questionable insulation, flooring, siding, roofing, and pipe coverings.

Tell us about any suspected asbestos before scheduling a cleanout or demolition project so the materials can be assessed before work begins.

  • You generally cannot identify asbestos by appearance alone. Older flooring, ceiling textures, insulation, and other building products may contain it, but a photograph cannot confirm whether they do.

Leave questionable materials undisturbed and contact a qualified asbestos inspector. Do not break off a piece or collect a sample yourself.

  • An asbestos survey documents an inspector’s assessment, sampling results, and which materials contain asbestos within the surveyed area. It helps establish what can be disturbed or removed.

For fire-damaged or previously questionable materials, Timber Moose Dynamics requires the applicable survey and assessment documentation before confirming removal. The paperwork must cover the materials involved in your project.

  • Possibly, after review. Fire damage does not automatically make every item hazardous, but ash, asbestos, or chemical contamination may affect what we can accept. Send us a description of the materials and the applicable assessment documentation before scheduling.

We must confirm that the items meet our acceptance policy and the receiving facility’s requirements.

  • A negative asbestos test does not automatically make fire ash acceptable. It does not rule out other hazardous substances or establish that a disposal facility will accept the load.

Timber Moose Dynamics cannot take hazardous or suspected hazardous ash. Any request involving assessed, nonhazardous fire ash requires our review and confirmation before scheduling.

  • No. Bagging, wrapping, or sealing hazardous material does not change what it contains or make it acceptable for our trailer. This is for the safety of our crew and the safety of those at the Disposal sites.

Mixing it with ordinary junk does not make it acceptable either. Leave questionable debris in place and have the appropriate specialist handle its preparation, removal, and disposal.

  • Stop work in the affected area and avoid disturbing the material further. Do not sweep, vacuum, cut, or break it. Keep others away and notify us before the project continues.

A qualified asbestos professional should assess the material and explain what needs to happen before work can safely resume.

  • Start with Spokane Regional Clean Air Agency at 509-477-4727 for asbestos survey, notification, and disposal guidance. An AHERA-certified building inspector can assess suspected asbestos, and a Washington-certified asbestos abatement company can handle asbestos removal.

Confirm the receiving facility’s requirements before arranging transportation; ordinary garbage disposal is not an appropriate substitute.

  • No. We cannot take hazardous chemical-contaminated soil, debris, rags, absorbents, or radioactive materials. These require assessment and a disposal provider equipped to handle the specific waste.

Contact the appropriate environmental or public health agency for guidance, and do not mix the materials with your other junk.

  • Yes, we typically may be able to remove the remaining nonhazardous items once the affected area and materials are suitable for our work. Provide the applicable survey, assessment, and any required completion or clearance documentation before scheduling.

We will review the remaining debris and disposal requirements before confirming acceptance. Removing one hazard does not automatically clear every item on the property.
