Paint, Chemicals & Automotive Fluids
Disposal Questions in Spokane, WA

A collection of paint, chemicals, and automotive fluids including hazardous labels

Cleaning out your space starts with knowing what needs special handling.

Old paint cans, leftover cleaners, garden chemicals, and automotive fluids can raise questions during a garage, shed, or property cleanout. This page answers common questions about these materials, what may require separate disposal, and where to find local disposal guidance. Before your junk removal appointment, tell Timber Moose Dynamics what you have so we can confirm what can be included in your pickup and what needs another disposal option.

Keeping hazardous materials out protects everyone handling your junk.

Paint, chemicals, and automotive fluids can leak when containers are crushed or damaged during loading and transport. Depending on the product, spills can release harmful fumes, cause chemical burns, or create a fire risk. Incompatible chemicals can also react when mixed, putting our crew and disposal workers at risk. These materials need separate handling and disposal, which is why Timber Moose Dynamics cannot include them in your pickup. Please keep them out of your removal pile and tell us if they are present before we begin.

How household hazardous waste disposal works

Spokane’s resident drop-off programs provide a separate disposal option for accepted household paint, chemicals, and automotive fluids. Timber Moose Dynamics cannot haul these materials for you, but these four steps can help you plan their disposal.

1. Identify what you have

Read the product labels and note the types and approximate quantities of materials you need to dispose of. Keep products separate, and never mix chemicals or automotive fluids. If a container is unidentified, damaged, or leaking, ask for guidance before handling or transporting it.

2. Check the program’s requirements

Visit Spokane County’s household hazardous waste page or call 509-477-6800 to confirm acceptance, quantity limits, and container requirements. Resident programs are for accepted household waste and do not accept business-generated hazardous waste.

3. Prepare for your drop-off

Follow the receiving facility’s preparation and transport instructions. Keep products in their original labeled containers whenever possible, with lids securely closed. Containers must meet the facility’s requirements; do not transport leaking or damaged containers without first obtaining guidance.

4. Take accepted materials to the collection area

Bring your accepted household materials to the hazardous waste collection area at the Waste to Energy Facility, North County Transfer Station, or Valley Transfer Station. Follow staff instructions when you arrive. Disposal is free for qualifying household materials, subject to the program’s restrictions.

  • No. Timber Moose Dynamics does not accept hazardous materials, including chemicals, fuels, and automotive fluids. These items must remain separate from the junk we collect and require an appropriate disposal option.

Please let us know about these materials before your appointment so we can plan the rest of your cleanout.

  • The waste facilities we use do not allow us to dispose of these materials as part of our commercial junk removal loads. Hazardous materials require separate handling and disposal.

We cannot collect them and use a residential household hazardous waste drop-off program on your behalf.

  • Keep paint, stains, solvents, paint thinner, chemical cleaners, pesticides, pool chemicals, fuels, motor oil, antifreeze, and other hazardous products out of your load.

This includes partially full containers and chemicals packed inside boxes, bags, cabinets, or other items being removed. If you are unsure about a product, tell us before pickup.

  • No. Our restriction applies even to a single container or a small amount of leftover product. Adding it to a larger junk removal load does not make it acceptable.

We can still discuss removing the other accepted items from your property.

  • No. A sealed or unopened container does not change our acceptance policy. We cannot take hazardous materials or chemicals, regardless of whether they have been used.

Please arrange a separate disposal option for those products. We are available for any questions you may have.

  • We do not collect leftover paint, stains, paint thinners, or related chemical products.

For household paint, check Spokane’s disposal guidance or PaintCare for an appropriate drop-off location. Confirm the type of paint, quantity limits, and container requirements before making the trip.

  • No. We cannot collect gasoline, diesel, motor oil, antifreeze, brake fluid, or other automotive fluids.

Keep them separate from the items we are removing, and contact an appropriate disposal provider. Do not combine different fluids into one container. Any equipment that has gasoline must be emptied before we can remove the item (IE: lawn-mower, weedwacker, etc)

  • Tell us about any paint, chemicals, or automotive fluids on the property. Clearly identify which items must stay, and keep hazardous products out of the removal pile.

If a container is leaking, damaged, or unidentified, get professional disposal guidance before handling it. Please do not move an unsafe container just to prepare for our visit.

  • For accepted waste generated through household use, Spokane offers household hazardous waste drop-off at the Waste to Energy Facility and the North County and Valley Transfer Stations.

These residential programs have material, quantity, and container restrictions. Check current requirements or call Spokane County’s Waste Hotline at 509-477-6800 before transporting your items. Availability for residents does not mean Timber Moose Dynamics can deliver those materials for you.

  • Business-generated hazardous waste needs a commercial disposal arrangement. Spokane’s residential household hazardous waste program does not accept it.

If you are cleaning out a shop, office, rental operation, or other business, contact a qualified hazardous waste disposal provider about the chemicals. Timber Moose Dynamics can discuss the remaining accepted junk separately.
