Propane Tanks, Gas Cylinders & Explosive Items Disposal Questions in Spokane, WA

Knowing what must stay out of your pickup helps everyone plan ahead.
Propane tanks, compressed gas cylinders, aerosol cans, ammunition, and old fireworks can turn up during garage, shed, and property cleanouts. Timber Moose Dynamics cannot accept propane tanks, gas cylinders, ammunition, fireworks, explosives, or aerosol cans containing hazardous products. These items require separate disposal arrangements. This page answers common questions about our restrictions and helps you find the appropriate local contact for disposal guidance. Tell us if these items are present before your appointment so we can plan removal of the remaining accepted junk.

When Can We Take a Tank or Cylinder?
Our acceptance requirement is that the tank or cylinder must be completely empty and have a hole drilled through it as part of professional decommissioning. Contact us before pickup to confirm that the prepared item meets our requirements.
Do not drill, puncture, or attempt to empty a tank yourself. A cylinder that appears empty may still contain residual pressure or hazardous gas. Contact a qualified gas supplier or cylinder disposal specialist to arrange safe preparation.
Keeping pressure and explosive hazards out protects everyone handling your junk.
Propane tanks and gas cylinders can retain pressure or hazardous gas even when they seem empty. Damage during loading or disposal can release their contents, creating fire, rupture, or exposure risks. Ammunition, fireworks, and explosives also require separate handling. Timber Moose Dynamics can only accept tanks and cylinders that meet our empty and professionally decommissioned requirements, including a drilled hole. Never drill, puncture, or attempt to empty a cylinder yourself—have a qualified professional prepare it, then contact us to confirm acceptance before pickup.
How propane tank, cylinder & explosive item disposal works
These items need different disposal arrangements depending on their contents and condition. Follow these four steps to find the right option before your cleanout.

1. Identify the items without altering them
Note any readable labels on propane tanks, gas cylinders, or aerosol cans. Do not open, puncture, drill, or release their contents. Leave suspicious explosive items undisturbed and seek professional guidance.
2. Contact the appropriate disposal provider
For propane tanks and gas cylinders, contact the gas supplier or a qualified cylinder disposal specialist. For household aerosol cans and eligible small propane tanks, call 509-477-6800 to check Spokane’s collection requirements. For ammunition, fireworks, or explosives, contact local law enforcement for instructions before transporting anything.
3. Follow the provider’s preparation instructions
Confirm acceptance, fees, and transport requirements before moving your items. If you want Timber Moose Dynamics to collect a tank as scrap, it must be completely empty and professionally decommissioned, including a drilled hole. Do not perform this work yourself. Contact us before arranging preparation to confirm our acceptance requirements.
4. Complete the approved disposal or pickup
Use the drop-off, supplier return, or specialist collection option you have confirmed. Do not bring ammunition or explosives to a facility or police station without prior instructions. Once a tank meets our requirements, confirm acceptance with Timber Moose Dynamics before including it in your pickup.
Only if it meets our acceptance requirements: the tank must be completely empty and professionally decommissioned, including a drilled hole. We cannot take tanks containing propane or residual gas.
Contact us before pickup to confirm acceptance, and have a qualified cylinder disposal professional handle any preparation.
No. A tank that no longer supplies your grill may still contain residual gas or pressure. Its weight or an “empty” gauge reading does not satisfy our requirements.
Please contact a propane supplier or cylinder disposal specialist rather than attempting to check or empty it yourself.
No—do not drill, puncture, cut, or attempt to release gas from a tank yourself. Our drilled-hole requirement applies to tanks safely decommissioned by a qualified professional.
Contact us first to confirm the requirements, then ask a cylinder disposal specialist whether they can prepare it appropriately.
These cylinders must also be completely empty and professionally decommissioned, including a drilled hole, before we can consider accepting them. Some cylinders belong to the supplier and should be returned instead.
Contact the supplier first, then confirm acceptance with us before scheduling removal.
Start with a propane retailer or the tank’s supplier to ask about return, exchange, or disposal options. Spokane’s household hazardous waste guidance also lists small propane tanks, subject to size and acceptance restrictions.
Call 509-477-6800 to confirm the appropriate location and requirements before transporting your tank.
We cannot take aerosol cans containing hazardous products or remaining pressure. Tell us about any aerosol cans before your appointment so we can clarify acceptance.
Do not puncture a can or spray out its contents just to prepare it for removal. Spokane’s household hazardous waste program lists nonempty aerosol cans among accepted residential items.
No. We do not collect ammunition, unused fireworks, misfires, or explosive materials. Keep them out of the removal pile and contact local law enforcement for disposal instructions.
Do not assume old, wet, or damaged items are safe to handle or discard.
Do not arrive with them unannounced. Contact local law enforcement first, describe what you have, and follow their instructions. Spokane’s household hazardous waste guidance excludes explosives and directs customers to law enforcement.
Depending on the item, you may be instructed to leave it in place rather than transport it.
Stop the cleanout in that area and keep others away. Do not move, open, or investigate the item. If you suspect a gas leak or an immediate explosive hazard, move to a safe distance and call 911.
Tell our team about the situation before the appointment; junk removal is not an emergency hazardous materials response service.
We can discuss removing the remaining accepted junk, provided the work area is safe and the restricted items can remain undisturbed. Tell us what is present before booking.
You do not need to handle an unsafe item to prepare for our visit—we may need to postpone work in the affected area until a qualified provider addresses it.
